NM rep. files legislation mandating school employee background checks
One of the most talked about bills in the upcoming New Mexico legislative session might be background checks for school employees.
Rep. David Adkins, R-Albuquerque, prefiled a bill that would require all school district employees to pass a background check.
That stems from last year’s debacle with the Albuquerque Public Schools District and the hiring of Jason Martinez as Deputy Superintendent.
Martinez got the job without a background check and was later exposed as facing child sex abuse charges in Colorado.
